SKU: A0.1756122
Composed by Richard Addinsell. Arranged by Marcus Martin. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, Chamber, Film/TV. 60 pages. Cornelius Edition (uk) #1316406. Published by Cornelius Edition (uk) (A0.1756122).
The Warsaw Concerto is a short work for piano and orchestra by Richard Addinsell, written for the 1941 British film Dangerous Moonlight, which is about the Polish struggle against the 1939 invasion by Nazi Germany. In performance it lasts just under ten minutes. The concerto is written in imitation of the style of Sergei Rachmaninoff. It initiated a trend for similar short piano concertos in the Romantic style and is an example of programme music, representing both the struggle for Warsaw and the romance of the leading characters in the film. It became very popular in Britain during World War II.
This version is re-arranged for String quartet and Piano and thus joins the repertoire of the Piano Quintet genre. It could form a programme of English music with quintet works by Elgar, Vaughan-Williams, Frank Bridge and Cyril Scott.
Other versions of this work arranged by Marcus Martin are available for String Quintet and Full orchestra and the Solo Piano part is also available separately. For a further selection of music published by Cornelius Edition visit www.marcusmartinmusic.co.uk.
