Ludger Vollmer's Two Hymns for Saxophone Quartet are based on a commissioned composition that was created for the 20th anniversary of reunification. For this occasion, Vollmer composed a string quartet for the city of Jena under the title ... and turned towards the future, combining the motifs of both historical German national anthems.
