Frantisek Skroup (1801-1862) studied philosophy and law in Prague; a talented conductor and singer; worked at the German opera company in Rotterdam in 1860 where he died. He is remembered for having composed part of the Czech national anthem (adopted in 1918), from a folk tune. Skroup composed in many genres.
