The Arkansas Traveler is one of the most popular and well known of all Arkansas folk songs. Originally a fiddle tune, this rendition is set in a cajun groove, and uses a number of compositional techniques to explore and develop the tune in many unexpected ways. Robert Sheldon arranges/writes very well for middle school & community band. As a community band director I look forward to presenting this piece. It is rhythmically interesting. There are sections with lovely brass choir & woodwind choirs. It begins with a jaunty style of the piece & moves into a beautifully written trumpet solo with band accompaniment & back again to a more vigorous version. I highly recommend it & encourage perusal of his other work!
