Part of the Valencia series written in honor of the Valencian Community of Spain, this piece is inspired by the Towers of Serran, one of the two medieval entrances to the city of Valencia. Once part of an encircling wall, the towers are preserved today as a historical monument.
The music begins at a brisk tempo, with themes suggestive of the vibrant life of the city. A slower, thoughtful section features a few solos before abruptly going to Allegro and presenting the second theme in a strong and unmistakably Spanish way. The second theme brings the piece to a close.
The title isn't Spanish, but Catalan (or Valenciano), the local language of Valencia.
