Tico-Tico no fubá (The Sparrow in the Cornmeal" by Zequinha de Abreu was camposed in 1917 and is a Brazilian choro song. Choro is an instrumental popular music genre with its origins in the 19th century and is characterized by virtuosity, improvisation and subtle modulations, full of syncopation and counterpoint.. This arrangement was written and orchestrated out of an old piano edition. By reason of the dedication "Aos bons amigos e distintos auxiliares da Cana Beethoven,..." the arranger combined a quote from the last movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Eroica" with the main theme of the song. It was commissioned and first performed by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer on 6 January 2014 in the "Grosses Festspielhaus" (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria.
