Three for Three Duration: 12 minutes
Three for Three was commissioned by the Strung Out Trio in 2003, these three master musicians were living and teaching at the university in Cyprus. Although the violinist and guitarist were husband and wife, often performing as Duo 46, they wanted a piece to include the pianist colleague. The challenge for me as composer was to find a way to negotiate the delicate balance between the guitar and the piano. Both of these instruments are in the same musical range and without a bass, can "cancel" each other out. Nevertheless, this piece shows a variety of instrumental textures and colors.
