Whilst the threat of a comet crashing into the Earth puts Deep Impact into the classic “disaster movie” category, a good portion of the movie focuses on people’s preparations for impending disaster and the emotion of hope and lost hope. Horner’s score appropriately highlights these more intimate themes, and one of the highlights of the score is the lilting and beautiful “The Wedding”; an innocent portrait of young love for a few minutes away from the stress and terror.
