2000‘s The Perfect Storm, a faithful adaptation of the betselling 1997 novel of the same name by Sebastian Junger, tells the true story of the fishing vessel Andrea Gail and its crew, and its fate during the “perfect storm” of October 1991. Returning to the genre of the unforgiving sea, composer James Horner stirs up a tumultuous and powerful score, employing a large orchestra which notably includes acoustic guitar, accentuating the warmth of the character theme, and electric guitar which gives the score a gritty, defiant edge that well represents the attitude of the crew.
