Longfellow's sorrowful "The Rainy Day" is now set for unison choir and piano. Although the poem is rounded with a realist sadness, Longfellow does infuse his work with hope and a glimmer of light. In keeping with the poem, the music attempts to match the alternately pessimistic and optimistic tone of the poem.
