The Old Warsh Rag is a ragtime piece for an Intermediate Concert Band that sounds a lot like Scott Joplin. It’s intricate enough to offer a bit of a challenge, yet very playable so that the band enjoys its efforts. A few of its features are:
* The key was chosen so that, even when it gets a bit intricate, it should be easy enough for everyone to play.
* There’s a counter melody that is played by itself and then superimposed on the main melody at the end.
* For fun and color, the low woodwinds get to play the bass line by themselves when the woodwinds are featured.
* Although listed as an Intermediate level piece, the flutes, first trumpets, horns and first trombones come close to the top of the range for an Intermediate player.
This piece is great fun piece for concert.
PLEASE NOTE – The conductor’s score is 8½ x 14 and will need to be printed on legal size paper.
