The Murmuring of Bees Has Ceased is a short tone poem for String Quartet based on the poem by Emily Dickinson. Like the poem, this piece juxtaposes a lively sections with slow, elegiac sections representing angst about climate change and our relationship with nature. Technically the piece explores several key areas with rich romantic harmony, lots of rubato, and gives each instrument moments to shine as the soloist. This short work would go well on concert programs about environment themes, or in events that pair poetry readings with music.
