A Flamboyance of Flamingos is inspired by one of the more unique birds of the animal kingdom. Flamingos are incredibly social, often forming cliques within their large family units. Their intricate social structure, vibrant color, and perplexing anatomy make for great bird-watching. A group of flamingos is called a “flamboyance,” and it’s hard to think of a better word to describe these wonderful creatures. This piece for flute choir highlights the characteristics of the flamboyant flamingos with dance rhythms and broad, confident, melodic motifs.
