Beyonce's "Texas Hold 'Em" was so much fun to arrange! The opening banjo solo is featured in the cello part with viola filling in some of the extra harmonies. The percussive "chunks" that get passed around between instruments should be played with a fair amount of pitch so that they are closer to chords than simply percussive "hits" against the strings. Violin 1 features the melody while Violin 2 plays a lot of percussive off beats and melodic "answers" for all of the "call-and-response" figures in the song. Violin 2 also features the melody in the bridge-like interlude in which the melody instrument becomes "whistling." The Viola provides banjo-like figures that harmonize with the relaxed bass line in the cello part and also joins the 2nd violin with tight harmonies in some of the call-and-response sections of the song. Rehearsal letters, measure numbers and bowings are provided for ease of sight-reading and performing at gigs.
