String Festival Solos are economical collections of transcriptions by Samuel Applebaum. In two volumes for each instrument, the solos are in progressive order of difficulty. Each volume contains nine pieces -- all classic titles in the Applebaum teaching repertoire. Some of these have been hard to find. Volume I progresses from Level 1 to Level 2, Volume II progresses from Level 2 to Level 3. The solos are useful for teaching technique, dynamics, phrasing, and overall musicianship. String Festival Solos are excellent for recitals, auditions and performances for assemblies, concerts or festivals. Contains: Sonatina in G (Beethoven) * Valse Bluette (Duvernoy) * Three German Dances (Beethoven) * Intermezzo (Hook) * Andante (Mozart) * Sonata in G (Hook) * Fantasia, Opus 86, No. 1 (Dancla) * Gavotte (Bach) * Theme and Variations, Opus 89, No. 5, (Dancla).

How to find piano parts
The piano parts are separate: search using the publisher code EL95107 to purchase them here for about $9. As a cello teacher I find the two selections by James Hook are charming and so useful. Danca sounds so dated to merit the difficulty(opinion, sorry). The Bach Gavotte is spoiled by using an octave displacement; instead, should have transposed to C. Beethoven's little piano sonatina in G should have been transcribed in D for cello. An odd mix with uneven/inconsistent grade of difficulty, but got this for the Hook movements, not found elsewhere.

Great for Early-Intermediate Students
What a fabulous compilation for students! I love these pieces for learning or for recital performances. Many, if not all, of the pieces are unique to this collection. Easy shifting makes this the perfect early-intermediate cellist!

String Festival Solos, Volume 2
A bit deceptive - I needed the piano part and didn't realize until it arrived that the piano part was sold separately -
