The popular standard Speak Low was introduced by Mary Martin and Kenny Baker in the Kurt Weill Broadway musical One Touch Of Venus in 1943, and has remained popular ever since. Over the years it's been recorded by the likes of Billie Holiday, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, and many others.
The opening lyric "Speak low when you speak love" is based on a line from Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, "Speak low if you speak love."
