Also great for basset horn
My main interest in this work is Beethoven's approval of Joseph Friedlowsky's (1777- 1859) transcription for basset horn. The Friedlowsky arrangement is extremely hard to find but I have it.

Beethoven Horn Sonata (Urtext)
I played this piece when in high school and revisit it now in its original form. The printing is perfect and there is annotation about what the composer likely wanted where it is not specified in the original. There is also a lengthy discussion of what Beethoven's intentions were where it isn't explicit in the original. This is a very scholarly treatment of this piece and is more faithful to the use of the natural horn for which it was written than any other edition which is edited for the modern horn. Also included is Beethoven's reworking of the piece for the 'cello, a definite plus for this edition.
