Snow Song was written at the request of Angel Vázquez-Ramos and CalState Fullerton's Men's Chorus in April 2015. When the conductor asked me to write a piece for men’s chorus, the composition process was very different for me in comparison with our previous collaboration (my “Three Summer Songs” for women’s choir was also written for and premiered by Angel Vázquez-Ramos). In the first song of the cycle for women's choir, the music and words were written by me at the same time, and in the two other songs, I found the text first (Emily Dickinson’s and Richard Le Gallienne’s poems), and then came the music. Snow Song had a reverse process: first came the music, and then I came across the text, which coincided not only rhythmically with the piece, but also reflected a character of the song, anticipating the spring’s spirit of self-sacrificial love. The MP3 is a MIDI playback of the song, and the video is the SATB version of the song.
