Six Album Leaves Op39 for Flute and Piano by Hans Sitt Flute Solo - Digital Sheet Music

By Hans Sitt

Hans Sitt might not be a well-known composer to wind players, as he composed music almost entirely for the strings. Born in Prague into a musical family, he was a violinist, violist, teacher, and composer. His father was a well-known violin maker. Although not pushed into music, he chose music as his profession, and was one of the most sought-after violin teachers of his time. Along with many positions as a performing violinist, he was also an orchestral conductor in several European countries. This sweet piece was originally composed in 1891 for viola and piano.1. Moderato Arranged here for flute and piano, it is a wonderful short piece to play for many occasions and, while not difficult, makes use of quite a broad range of the flute, which makes it a great exercise piece.2. Andante sostenuto In the key of G minor, it is a little melancholic, and a good opportunity to focus on expression.3. Allegro This cheerful piece is not difficult to play and would be great as an encore. It has a key change from G major to G minor and back, which adds a bit of interest.4. Allegro This piece is filled with beautiful lilting and frolicking passages, while making great use of the flute's range. It is geared towards the intermediate-advanced musician.5. Lento Originally written in the key of F minor, this arrangement is transposed to A minor to better accommodate some awkward lower key fingerings. It is simply a beautifully sorrowful piece.6. Molto vivace This piece is geared towards the intermediate-advanced musician. Although written in the same key, this arrangement differs from the original in a few ways:      • The accompaniment is marked with many dotted quarter notes with staccato marks instead of eighth notes and 2 eighth rests. This was done to keep the score from looking too busy.       • Notes from the original piece were removed to facilitate breathing. Notes and frills were also added towards the end of the piece.       • The original ending has a 6-measure ritardando and diminuendo. This arrangement's tempo plugs on and ends on a high note at full volume.  After playing a gazillion notes are blazing speed, it seems anticlimactic to seem to run out of steam at the end. However, if you would prefer to be true to the composer's original version, the ritardando and diminuendo is marked with a large asterisk.Individual movements are available for purchase under the following titles "Album Leaves Op39 No(#)."This work ranges from intermediate to mid-advanced in both the solo and accompaniment parts.Scored for C flute and piano.Duration: 16 minutes
