Philippe Gaubert (1879–1941) was a prominent French composer, flutist, and conductor whose career flourished during the early 20th century. Born in Cahors, France, Gaubert studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he excelled as a flutist and later became one of the leading flute professors of his generation. He performed extensively across Europe and quickly gained recognition for both his technical mastery and his refined musical style. In addition to his work as a performer, Gaubert held important conducting positions, including principal conductor of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire and music director of the Paris Opéra, placing him at the center of French musical life.
As a composer, Gaubert is best known for his lyrical, elegant works for flute, which remain staples of the instrument’s repertoire today.
