A classic of 20th century organ repertory
This work was commissioned for an inaugural concert of the new organ at New York Philharmonic Hall (to be performed by Virgil Fox!). A meditation on Psalm 130 (Out of the Depths I Cry to Thee, O Lord) in 12-tone technique, this work is highly dramatic and deeply moving. The technical demands are only moderately advanced: many of the textures are sparse (e.g. pedal soli). Highly recommended!
