Originally written for solo violin and piano, Salut d'Amour (Love's Greeting) has been sensitively arranged for the modern concert band. It includes both opportunities to feature your stronger players as well as cross-cues to compensate for smaller ensembles.

Program Notes: Salut d’Amour (Op. 12) is a short, lyrical piece composed by Edward Elgar in 1888. It is one of his earliest popular works and remains one of his most beloved miniatures. Elgar wrote this piece as an engagement present for his future wife, Caroline Alice Roberts, a published author. Originally titled “Liebesgruss” (German for "Love’s Greeting"), the piece reflects both personal affection and Elgar’s interest in continental culture—his fiancée had recently studied German. When Elgar sought to publish the piece, his publisher suggested a French title, “Salut d’Amour,” believing it would appeal more to the continental European market. It was first published under both titles: Liebesgruss (Salut d’Amour) .
