Familiar to audiences worldwide as the theme for Benjamin Britten’s 1946 "A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra", Purcell’s stately and majestic “Rondeau from Abdelazer” is from incidental music he composed for the 1678 play “The Moor’s Revenge.” The elegant "Rondeau" has been used as the theme for films and television programs. Adding to the musical excitement of two antiphonal B-trumpet quartets led by solo B-flat piccolo trumpets is increasingly ornamented parts for the two solo piccolo parts.
