Charming
I love most of the music from Pearl Fishers and this piece translates to the viola splendidly which is not always the case with opera arias. I would like the duet from this opera to be made suitable too, I have a duet version but it is not satisfactory for a solo. Bizet and Puccini operas seem to work well on strings.I returned to the viola in my late 70s as my physical activities declined and now have an NS violin tuned as a viola which is fun when played through various guitar pedals. There is a greater volume of music available for viola but many pieces can be transcribed an octave lower by putting the notes into the alto clef one notch down. One of my favourites is the Russian folk song Legend of the twelve robbers which I found easy to combine the high tenor with the bass solo. Tedious to do by hand but well worth while.
