"Return Tickets" is a two-movement work that presents the audience with two short, musical journeys. Both movements rely on slowly unfolding processes that gradually break the starting musical material and then, over time, re-forge a new version of that opening music. In this way, it presents two cyclic journeys for the listener to experience. This work is somewhat challenging for the ensemble and is also more complex harmonically. As a result, it would be most suitable for somewhat experienced or adventurous concert-goers. The score is written for two trumpets, horn, trombone and bass trombone, though the bass trombone part would also be suitable for tuba.
