Piano Fingers – Book Four continues the musical journey with new challenges that strengthen technique, reading skills, and expressive playing.
Building directly on the foundations of Piano Fingers – Book Three, the first piece introduces three sharps, expanding key awareness from the very beginning. Students encounter a right-hand A on the ledger line above the stave (treble clef), along with E♯ in the right hand, encouraging careful note reading and attention to accidentals.
Dynamic markings mp and mf are introduced early, helping students begin to shape their sound with greater control.
As the book progresses, students continue to expand their range across the keyboard. The right hand is extended further with the addition of A below middle C, while the left hand develops with the introduction of bass notes A and B. Rhythmic understanding is strengthened through the introduction of semiquavers, supporting increased fluency and coordination.
Musical expression is developed in greater depth with a wider dynamic range, including pp, mp, mf, and ff, as well as crescendos and decrescendos. Accents and tenuto markings are introduced to encourage clarity, control, and expressive detail in performance. Musical structure is explored through D.C., Dal Segno, Fine, and Coda, helping students understand repeats, endings, and overall musical form.
Key awareness continues to grow with pieces featuring three and four sharps and flats, supporting confidence across a broader range of key signatures.
