Ilia Chkolnik, composer and musician with eclectic Talents - a.o. since long years pianist and photographer at the Béjart Ballet in Lausanne, Switzerland - started his career as solo trumpet at the Bolchoi Orchestra in Moscow. He succeeded masterly to constrain the traditional three-movement concerto form to eleven minutes and all the same to preserve the musical emotions of the grand virtuoso repertoire. The orchestration - 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani, percussion and strings - provides a rich symphonic accompaniment, which furthermore is accessible for youth orchestras.
An excellent piano reduction of the orchestra accompaniment enables optimal preparation to the young soloist (Ref. PNO18a). The Piano Concerto No. 1 for Children is creating a sensational musical event when a (very) young talent is performing on stage as a “great soloist.
