Composed by Alexander Borodin, Cesar Antonovich Cui, and Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Arranged by Arkady Leytush. This edition: pdf, streaming. 19th Century. Full Orchestra. 166 pages. Arkady Leytush #1404190. Published by Arkady Leytush (A0.1844636).

The original version of this music is written for piano, three hands (teacher and student). I orchestrated it for a full symphony orchestra. The inclusion of a 4-6-year-old child as a soloist is also significant; he plays the main theme of "Tati-Tati" on the piano along with the orchestra at the beginning and end of the 24 variations and finale. In discussing the music of this work, I would first like to point out how Borodin's innocent musical joke, played with two fingers among his friends, Rimsky-Korsokov, Cui, and Lyadov, gave rise to the idea of a collaborative effort, which resulted in the creation of these variations and finale, and then, a little later, in the writing of separate, complete pieces based on a paraphrase of "Tati-Tati." I usually tell this story to the audience before the performance. "24 Variations with a Finale" is a composition designed for family and children's symphony concerts, where the educational component is of great importance and teaches young listeners an understanding of classical music, the ability to listen and hear, the different characteristics of individual musical instruments and orchestral groups, the concept of variations and the principles used by these composers, etc. F. Liszt gave this composition its highest praise, pointing out how, using the trivial musical joke of "Tati-Tati," the compositional mastery of the aforementioned composers can create such interesting and vibrant music!
