Panis Angelicus “Bread of Life” by César Frank (1822-1890) a verse, written by Saint Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century, from the hymn “Sacris solemniis” in honor of the Feast of Corpus Christi. Probably Frank’s best known work the French/Belgian composer set the latin text to music in 1872. But later it made it’s way into a mass composed earlier (1860) by Frank (Mass for Three Voices).
This setting is in the Key of A and is for just string quartet. There is another I’ll be submitting for string quartet plus solo voice in the key of G. This works very well for wedding prelude music or if doing a wedding music works well for Communion or special music.
