This work may be considered a modern concerto for flute and string orchestra, following a compact three-movement structure unified under a fantasy-like conception. The thematic material is centered in A minor and subtly touches upon the Arabic maqam Saba, a mode used in both Arabic and Persian music, while never leaving the tonal stability of A minor required for a classical ensemble. Although the melody has a distinctly folk-like character, it is entirely original.
The work maintains a careful balance between the flute and the string orchestra, allowing each to express its own character and independence while remaining in continuous dialogue.
