Oppius dei – Portraits of a Musical Mafia is more than a collection of piano pieces: it is a mosaic of sonic images that evoke power, intrigue, and theatricality within an underground universe. Each portrait is a miniature tableau, where music becomes narrative, gesture, and character.

Between shadows and gleams, the piano takes on the role of narrator –at times an accomplice, at others a judge– guiding the performer through atmospheres of tension, irony, and lyricism. The work invites immersion in a game of contrasts, where the discipline of writing converses with the freedom of imagination.

This cycle of twelve tableaux, though born as a response to a specifi c group of musicians, does not aim to illustrate a linear story. Rather, it suggests fragments of a broader plot, one shared by all organizations that, within music, assert their interests through obscure means.

The title alludes to the narcotic that lulled the consciences of its disciples, and to the cult-like devotion inspired by its Capo. These are open suggestions –left to the interpretation of both performer and audience. Thus, each performance becomes a new portrait, a fresh reading of this “musical mafia” that dwells between the real and the symbolic.
