Published by Homco/Crinion (A0.1469050)."Old Hundredth" (Doxology) is a hymn tune from the 16th Century. It received its current name from its association with Psalm 100. The old melody is also sung to different lyrics and has been used in chorales and instrumental works. In fact, J.S. Bach used the melody in one of his Cantatas and Felix Mendelssohn in one of his Piano Trios. Most recently, Ralph Vaughan Williams used the old 100th psalm tune for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in a brass fanfare. This arrangement for violin & cello is a theme-and-variations type setting of the melody.
