Good piece, bad print quality
I've known this arrangement for years, and it's a powerful work but fairly easy to put together. But the print quality is awful. I've seen very good quality work from this publisher, so this is even more disappointing. The piece is from an archive edition, so they make photocopies of it as needed. This is a great way to allow pieces that would otherwise be out of print to stay in circulation. However, it's clearly a third generation copy, or more (a copy of a copy of a copy...). The publisher's response to my inquiry about this was that they did not receive original printing plates when they purchased the company that originally published this piece, and they are working on re-typesetting the material, but it's a slow process. Understandable, but unfortunately, that won't help me as I have to explain to my choir which notes are half notes and which are quarter notes. Also note that some of the print quality issues stem from poorly maintained equipment and badly stored paper.
