O Holy Night was composed in 1847 by Adolphe Charles Adam (1803-1856), a French composer with many operas and ballets to his credit. The Christmas song has become an essential item in many Christmas services and concerts. This arrangement is scored for oboe and piano and the lowest note in the oboe part is middle C (C4) and the highest note is G just above the treble staff. (G5) The piano part is also easy with conventional, notation and chord symbols, being a simplified version of the original.
First performed in 1847, the original song achieved fame quickly and has been translated into many languages. The most popular English translation was written in 1855 by John Sullivan Dwight. The song was evidently featured in the world's first radio broadcast on Christmas Eve of 1906.
