Composed by Fanny Hensel. Arranged by Marc Donatelle. This edition: pdf, streaming. 19th Century, Chamber, Classical, Romantic Period. 28 pages. Marc Donatelle #1434664. Published by Marc Donatelle (A0.1875687).

Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel (1805-1847) was born in Hamburg, Germany nearly four years before her famous brother Felix. The two received similar musical training and both were deemed prodigies. They were quite close and helped each other with their compositions and often performed together.

In early 19th century Germany, it was not proper for women to perform or compose music. In fact, six of her songs were published under her brother’s name in his Opus 8 and 9 collections.

Fanny wrote this piece in the style of a Barcarolle or Venetian boat song in 1838, before a year-long trip to Italy.

Suggested performance style: Play in a slow 6/8 in 2 beats as opposed to a feel in 6 beats. The music should ebb and flow dynamically and with slight rhythmic rubato.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
