Program Notes:
Mozart's 12 Duets, K. 487 (also known as K. 496a), are a set of musical compositions written in 1786 in Vienna. Originally composed for two horns, these duets have been adapted for various instrument combinations. The duets were composed while Mozart and his friend Ignace Leitgeb, a virtuoso French horn player, waited for their turn to bowl. This casual setting yielded these charming and unpretentious pieces that have become popular among musicians.
