Moody Moon of Summertime Woodwind Quartet - Digital Sheet Music

This unique intermediate-level arrangement is a contrafact on the simple chord progression of George Gershwin's classic, Summertime. This arrangement features a groovy bass line played by the bassoon, but the upper woodwinds work to expose the beautiful colors of the harmony. With a good balance of homophonic textures and interwoven melodies, this simple-looking arrangement sounds quite sophisticated.   Younger students' ears will be challenged by the sounds of the more complex, modern voicings, (particularly in the introduction and ending), and every chair in the ensemble will be challenged to count and play with confidence.  At just around 1:30 playing time, this is perfect for in-class assessment performances or a chamber recital or collage concerts where smaller pieces are needed to fill in the gaps.  Although this is designed for players in their 3rd or 4th year of band, some younger players may be able to "reach up" while more advanced groups will enjoy this piece as a departure from the standard repertoire.
