Composed by Gregg Henegar. Score and Parts. Imagine Music Publishing #PDP191. Published by Imagine Music Publishing (IG.PDP191).
9 x 12 in inches.
Modern Exercises for the Contrabassoon was published by Henry Skolnick and included excerpts from the Erb Contrabassoon Concerto. In preparing the Second Edition of the Modern Exercises, Henegar has revised, expanded, and reordered his original studies. The Second Edition does not include the excerpts from the Erb Concerto owing to unreasonable royalty expectations on the part of the work's licensing agent.. Luckily there are many solo and chamber works available today which explore the upper tessitura of the instrument and thus provide opportunities for applying the techniques and patterns of the Modern Exercises.
A fingering chart provided by Gregg Henegar is included in the Modern Exercises. These are the fingerings he uses with his Mollenhauer contrabassoon. During the last ten years many manufacturers have worked to improve the contrabassoon. The Fast System produced by Fox Bassoons, the acoustically redesigned contrabassoon developed by Guntram Wolf, and many others call for different fingerings in the extreme upper range. Each performer should consult with the manufacturer to explore the potential of his or her instrument to achieve mastery of the fingerings necessary for the successful execution of the Modern Exercises for the Contrabassoon.
