Merry-go-round Of Life by Joe Hisaishi Harp - Digital Sheet Music

By Joe Hisaishi
Harp - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.836267

Composed by Jo Hisaishi and Joe Hisaishi. Arranged by Rena Ng. Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Rena Ng #6091629. Published by Rena Ng (A0.836267).

A lever harp arrangement of Merry Go Round of Life by Joe Hisaishi from Howl’s Moving Castle. It can be tricky to play on the harp but it’s definitely very beautiful! For this arrangement, I tried to preserve as many harmonies as possible. In the video, the tempo played at is around 70bpm (slower than the original) to give enough time for the many lever changes. But the tempo can of course be adjusted according to skill level.

Suitable for advanced intermediate level players on lever harps tuned in Eb major. Sheet music has lever change markings indicated. A guide to the harp octaves has been included in the PDF. I've not tested it on a pedal harp so I'm not sure if it is suitable.

Key: G minor
Lever/Pedal changes: Multiple
Range: C6 – F1

**Note: There are minor revisions to the score from 14 April 2021 based on feedback (thank you!).

If you purchased it before that, the revisions made are as follows:
1) Measure 4 (RH) - Enat down to Eb at the second quaver
2) Measure 4 (RH) – Eb down to D at the minim
3) Measure 14 – Enat6 lever can be set from the beginning of the piece
4) Measure 79 (RH) – A down to G
5) Measure 82 (LH) - Eb down to D
6) Measure 96 (LH) – Eb down to C
7) Measure 97 (LH) – Eb down to A

Response to @Carolina
I really wish there was a way for me to reply reviews directly! Thank you very much for the suggestions.I arranged this piece based on an old piano arrangement that I had and I've come to realise it may not be the most accurate to the original. So I've taken another listen to the original and think these 5 revisions can be made to the score:1) Measure 4 (RH) - Eb down to D at the minim2) Measure 14 - the Enat6 lever can be set right at the beginning instead3) Measure 79 (RH) - A down to G in the harmony4) Measure 96 (LH) - E down to C in the harmony5) Measure 97 (LH) - E down to A in the harmonyI hope these revisions help to make the arrangement better. I've also updated the audio sample to a 70bpm track. Thank you very much for the support :)

Revision suggestions
I think my last review went too far. Here are the measures I revised.Msr 82, E flat to D in left hand. harmonies in msr 11, right hand. There are 2 more spots that sounded off to me (msr 78 perhaps) but I dont have time to run through it again right now. Its over all a nice arrangement. I just think there are a few spots that could be revised. Thanks for publishing and arranging harp music!I can offer pedal markings if wanted.

Needs Revision
This arrangement needs to be revised. There are multiple discordant notes. The lever flips make this piece very slow. The sound clip is misleading, as it plays at a tempo that is not feasible with the levers. Watch the video before purchasing, as that is the tempo the song will be.The pedals are doable, but its taking me a long time to write them in the right places. I have spent 4 hours revising and rewriting the piece. It has potential, but needs revision.

Response to @u01vam4
Hi there @u01vam4, there's no other way for me to respond so I have to write another review. Sorry to hear you're having some difficulties. I just updated the listing with a video of my recording of this arrangement - hope it helps. There are also no notation errors based on what I've arranged.Generally, the trick to some of the lever changes is to change the levers the same time you play that note, or to change it as late as possible before the start of the next note. Other times, you can use the right hand to mute the strings while you change the levers. Unfortunately, there are a couple where the changes would cause a residual sound but that can't be helped. Feel free to omit any accidentals in your own playing or play it at a slower tempo if it works better! The score is just a guide anyway :)I hope you'll give the arrangement another try. Cheers!

This is piano music, not harp music
This is not a good arrangement of the tune. Some of the lever changes are completely impossible. For example on bar four where the suggested lever change happens in the space of a quaver while that string will still be ringing from having played the pervious note. A similar thing happens between bar 9 and 10 where the music suggests another lever change while the note is still ringing. The lever change in that bar makes little sense since the note itself could just be skipped without affecting the tune. Ive also noticed a number of incorrectly marked and/or missed accidentals that seem to be notation mistakes (rather than just a different interpretation of the tune). Its very poor that sheetmusic plus dont offer refunds on digital music.
