In his piano works, Mompou showed himself to be a master of exquisite minature with a haunting intimacy. These qualities are no less true of his songs, which are relatively unknown. This beautiful, lyric music is in rather a 20th-century “salon” style, reminding the listener occasionally of Poulenc. 22 songs are included. Songs in French and Catalan.

Melodies et chansons
This edition is reasonably price and an excellent contribution to the published works of Mompou. The choice of songs is varied but require French or Spanish. The accompaniments are differ in complexity but are generally quite simple.This collection makes a valuable addition to Salabert's Mompou Piano Album. The songs are wonderfully sensitive and sit happily in the lower soprano range. Buying this music would help to do justice to an undervalued composer whose music I would have on my Desert Island. Above all, they are very beautiful.

The songs are in French and Catalan, Mompou's native tongue. There is no such language as Canadian!
