By Carole King, Gloria Estefan, and The Drifters. By Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Arranged by Jeff Lowden. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, Contemporary, Pop, Singer/Songwriter. 70 pages. Jeffry Lowden #1122924. Published by Jeffry Lowden (A0.1550532).
Here is some of the timeless music of Carole King written for Concert Band/Wind Ensemble. It is a challenging medley but I have endeavored to represent the songs as authentically as possible. My reference was the original recordings, so it is my hope you will consult Carole's versions as well. Most important is to follow the metronome markings and resist the temptation to perform the songs too fast. Let the beat sit comfortably, where she did and allow the inner rhythms shine through. Also, please DO include the piano part; after all, can one imagine Carole without her piano? Even so, I have written cues for the band instruments so that they may fill in the places where the piano plays solo if necessary.
This is Part 1 of a medley that was orginally conceived as one complete work, however, it fits the ArrangeMe publication parameters better when divided into two parts. That's ok - nothing is lost. Feel free to play Part 1 alone or pair it with Part 2 (available separately), which picks up where the first part ends. The measures in both are numbered as if they are a complete piece, combined. I highly recommend you pair the two as one selection. You might even try or Part 1 earlier in the concert and Part 2 later.
