Hector Berlioz traveled to Budapest in 1846 to give concerts to make his compositions better known. For this occasion he composed several pieces with Hungarian melodies to win the favour of his audience. One of them was an adaption of the Rákóczi March, quasi an unofficial Hungarian anthem, which became the favourite one of the audience. With some modifications he included this composition as Marche Hongroise in his opera "La damnation de Faust". The arrangement is one whole tone lower than the original key for symphony orchestra and was first time performed on 26 November 2016 by the Municipal Band of Zirl, Tyrol, Austria conducted by Albert Schwarzmann.
