“March of the Toys” by Victor Herbert is a delightful piece, but older editions are not arranged with the most common modern instruments in mind, and the writing often includes rhythms and cadences that can be difficult for groups with limited rehearsal time.
The orchestration has been reworked to suit a medium to full sized community or school orchestra with standard instrumentation.
The piece has been transposed from C major to B-flat major, allowing it to conclude in G major and avoiding the challenge of five sharps for B-flat instruments.
Added additional instruments for full orchestra. Three Trumpets (opt 4th), Bass Clarinet (doubles Bassoon), 2 Trombones, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Optional Oboe, Optional Harp and Piano.
Rhythms and melodic lines have been carefully simplified while preserving the character of the music. All parts are now in 12/8 instead of a mixture of 4/4 and 12/8
Suggested bowings are provided.
