A lovely Finnish folk tune is the basis for this Advent arrangement, which features an optional violin soloist. The plaintive, melancholy mood and decidedly Nordic harmonies are descriptive of the hymn text, which speaks of a people in darkness searching for light, and waiting for a Savior. The optional use of handchimes as a soft treble obbligato adds to the mystic feel. Voicing: 3, 4 or 5 octaves handbells with optional violin and 3 octaves handchimes Composer: Finnish folk tune Arranger: Cathy Moklebust Tune source: LOST IN THE NIGHT Season: Advent Level: 2+.

Lost in the Night
I purchased this piece because I am Nordic and thought it was a beautiful composition for our group. However, I think when they rehearsed it, they found it too melancholy for Christmas time. Unless there is a violinist available, it is difficult to hear a melody line.
