The songs from Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Op. 71 are undoubtedly among his most beautiful vocal works. With “An die Entfernte” (To the Distant One), “Auf der Wanderschaft” (On a Journey) and “Nachtlied” (Night Song) - three of the six songs included - the composer once again demonstrates his masterful artistry in pouring deeply felt emotions into clear musical forms. In this arrangement, the songs are presented in a special version for voice and string quartet: the simple but expressive musical structure, the clear harmonies, and the transparent voice leading of the piano accompaniment are perfectly transferred to the four string instruments.
