Handel’s Largo from Xerxes was the source of inspiration for Marcel Grandjany’s harp standard, Aria in Classic Style. This arrangement makes use of the wonderful base section of the pedal harp plus sets enharmonic pedals during arpeggios to enhance the warmth of the harp.
Handel was the last of three composers who, over 84 years, used the same Libretto by Nicolo Minato for their operas. Handel’s version was a failure in 1738. However, starting in the 19th century, his Largo gained popularity as a solo separate from the Opera.
