Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). This edition: pdf. 19th Century, Broadway, Chamber, Musical/Show, Opera, Romantic Period. 55 pages. Joel Jacklich #1389184. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.1829456).
Johann Strauss, Jr., "the Waltz King," wrote many more popular dance pieces in addition to waltzes. He also produced 17 operettas filled with his own special brand of popular music. Here is the overture to "Die Fledermaus" ("The Revenge of the Bat") arranged for string quartet. The operetta's plot is filled with disguises and mistaken identities, all in payback for a practical joke played upon one of the characters a year earlier. This is, by far, Strauss' most beloved operetta.
Care has been taken to provide page turns at rests in all quartet parts. All parts are very similar to the full orchestra parts (with the addition of a few notes to cover the missing winds). The first violin part is quite demanding, so I have rated this as grade 7+ (professional).
If you enjoy this arrangemnent, check out other string quartet arrangements of pieces by Strauss: his Emperor Waltzes; Blue Danube Waltzes Wine, Women, and Song Waltzes; Pizzicato Polka; and others.
