La carità (Charity) is part of a series of sacred and secular vocal pieces written much later in his life, collectively known as the "Péchés de vieillesse" (Sins of Old Age)—a collection of witty, charming, and often deeply felt miniatures. La carità itself is a lyrical, profoundly devotional work, originally scored for four-part female chorus (or soloists) with piano accompaniment. It's a composition that speaks of gentle reverence and pure, melodic beauty, showcasing a side of Rossini that is introspective and spiritual, far removed from the dazzling crescendos of his operas.
The transformation we are about to hear is the work of Sandro Carnelos, an acclaimed organist who specializes in bringing the expressive richness of vocal and orchestral music to the organ.
