Johann Wenzeslaus Kaliwoda schreef Introductie, Thema en Variaties opus 128 in het jaar 1844. Hij droeg het op aan een virtuoze tijdgenoot, Carl Bärmann. Johann Wenzeslaus Calliwoda composed Introduction, Theme and Variations opus 128 in 1844, and he dedicated this piece to the virtusoso contemporary Carl Bärmann.. This solo work contains a lot of recognizable influences from German early Romanticism. Long dreamy melody lines and jagged character changes are followed through numerous variations. It seems as so the composer wants to show the listener what the absloute technical capabilities of the clarinet are.

Cet oeuvre pour clarinette solo contient beaucoup d’influences de la (première) Romantique allemande. Des lignes romantiques longues et rêveuses et des changements de caractère capricieux, suivis de quelques variations. C’est comme si le compositeur veut emmener l’écouteur jusq’aux frontières de ce qui est techniquement jouable sur la clarinette.

Hier scheint es so, als ob der Komponist den Zuhörer mitnehmen will, bis an die Grenzen, was technisch auf der Klarinette möglich ist.
