Growing up a piano player and trumpet player, this composition intentionally places importance upon both instrumentalists with each musician having their own sections in which to shine, displaying technique, lyricism, harmonic language, and range. The cadenza sections are open to interpretation creating a unique opportunity for expression from both musicians.
The piece attempts to capture the spontaneity of childhood, with a playful opening melody, a contemplative lyrical section, closing with a spirited or "heroic" recap of the original melody.
Both musicians will have the equal opportunity to show-off technique and musicality making this a piece that is not a singular feature for either instrumentalist, but truly a collaboritve effort for music's sake.
